FAQ
Do you have to be really fit?
A general level of fitness that allows you to get out daily and enjoy the natural beauty of Vis by peddle, paddle and foot power is advantageous. Fitness is a difficult thing to judge, there are a huge variety of fitness levels. The kayaks are doubles and if guests find it difficult to paddle longer distances then we can partner them with someone who is stronger. Cycling involves quite a few hills, the bikes are great, one way routes are an option with a pick up in the landrover for the return trip. For our guests who are really motivated to maintain a high level of fitness then we can always plan extra bike routes, afternoon run routes and extra mileage. Also, all activities are optional, often some family members choose to have some time alone whilst others participate.
Is it okay if you are over 50?
Guest ages have ranged from 18 months to late 60s and we see no reason why this range can’t be broader. Some of the fittest guests we have had stay have been over 50. If your over 50 and not our fittest guest don’t worry - The whole holiday is designed around your needs, fitness levels and what you want to do on a daily basis.
Is it suitable for a single traveller?
Yes. But we do have a single supplement for July and August.
Do I have to do all the activities?
The daily plan is designed around your preferences and everything is optional. We have had circumstances where a family has done different things, example, Mum has gone cycling with the teenage children and the Dad has stayed at the house to finish his book in the shade of the terrace.
Which airport do you recommend flying into?
Flying to Split - is easiest. When you arrive at Split airport it takes around 30 minutes drive to get to the centre of Split and the place that you purchase the ferry tickets. There is almost always a Croatian Airlines flight arriving in Split, this is accompanied by a courtesy bus which anybody can jump on for 30 Kunas each (£4).
Flying to Zadar - involves a 2 hour transfer, some options below:
1. Pick up at the airport with driver- 150 Euros each way- Croatia Transfers (info@croatia-transfers.com)
2. Hire a car at the airport and then drop off in Split. The road between Zadar and Split is a new motorway, very quick and very easy. The return journey from Split to Zadar could then be taken on the old coast road, if you had more time getting to the airport. One of the best prices that I found was at www.auto-europe.co.uk. The price for the car and different location drop off was 29.40 GBP
Bus...the buses are great and cheap, the journey would be about 10GBP per person and they take about 2 hours 30. Details of times etc can be found on www.ak-split-hr/en/index.html
We have also had guests fly into Dubrovnik and Ancona (Italy).
Can you recommend accommodation in Split?
Yes, all of these places are in, or close to the old town and are only 100m from where you purchase the ferry tickets and where the airport bus/taxi from will drop you off.
www.kastelsplit.com www.hotelslavija.com www.hotelperistil.com
All above are located in the old town, very close to the taxi/bus stop for airport transfers. Can be noisy in the evening, particularly at weekends.
A couple have guests this year have stayed at the accommodation below. Its about 500 meters from the taxi/bus stop for airport transfers but just outside the old town and thus much quieter.

Alternatively, you can go on the Split tourist board website and they will book accommodation for you if you want to try to find something cheaper. We find the tourist board to be very friendly when we contact them in regards to finding accommodation
What about the ferry from Split-Vis and then back Vis-Split?
The ticket for the ferry will not require purchasing in advance, it costs approx. £4. The timings for the ferry change throughout the year, if you request a specific date we can inform you of ferry timings to help with other travel plans. The early ferry leaves Vis every saturday all year at 5:30 am, meaning that you can be at Split airport no earlier than 8:30 am for returning flights.
Do you have wireless internet connection?
Yes you can stay connected if you feel the need to. We also have a laptop that is available for use in the evenings to check email, recommend www.wearactive.com to friends and/or confirm onward travel.
