Great Food

Food has a high priority in the Wearactive experience. The changing menu reflects the seasons and our desire to keep cooking dishes that incorporate the vast island produce. We love being dependent on our neighbours for their fresh produce and wonderful white and red wine. The island provides us with figs, almonds, olives, grapes, lemons, pomegranate, sun ripened tomatoes and an abundance of fresh herbs, such as rosemary and sage.

The meals produced at the house are predominantly vegetarian. While this may initially intimidate a few guests, by the end of the week everyone loves the freshness and tastiness of the food.

“An unexpected highlight is Xania's superb vegetarian cooking (we are generally unreconstructed carnivores), not to mention her brilliant afternoon cakes (her tiffin particularly lives on in the children's memories)” Joe Kai, 17th September 2009

Breakfasts will be provided each day. Breakfast may include: Fresh Bread (delivered daily at 8 am), eggs, cereal, yogurt and local honey, tea or coffee, and juice.

Lunch will be provided on 4 days. This may include home made soup & salads or a picnic lunch if you are out on an activity and you want to spend longer at the beach.

Every day there is a yummy afternoon cake to give you that little energy boost!

Evening meal will be provided on 3 nights. Evening Meals will include 3 courses with wine from the island. We generally eat on the balcony outside and while the starter is enjoyed watching the sunset, we usually have dessert under the stars. There is no set menu, you cannot be dependent on local produce and then plan a meal weeks or even days in advance! The food is always very tasty and beautifully presented.

On the other 4 evenings we recommend that you try to experience some traditional island food. Scattered within the villages of the interior, there are small homesteads or Agro Tourism restaurants that offer delicious traditional cuisine, prepared with reverence and simplicity, like the lamb peka. For a more formal dinning experience, Vis has some excellent fish restaurants. Many places bring you the catch of the day on a plater, you then select your choice of fresh adriatic fish. If pizza and beers is your meal of choice, then Vis and Komiza town have plenty of tasty options. We will provide transport to and from the restaurant so that you can enjoy a glass of wine and the local prosek.
