During the snowy season we offer a range of guided mountain activities from snow shoe hiking in magical forest trails and on snowy ridges, to cross country skiing, gliding on some of the many tracks that crisscross our valley.
It's also possible to ski or snowboard from MoaAlm to the GG ski resort which offers 37 km of downhill skiing/riding. If you would like to learn how to downhill ski, we can arrange this with our ski school.  Guests may also want to take advantage of one of our theme weeks and learn how to Splitboard and ski tour or join our Adult Learn to Ski week.

Every holiday with us includes five Yoga classes and also five afternoon inversion classes in our Yoga studio, with panoramic mountains views and a qualified Yoga teacher.

With the Alpine pastures a vibrant colour green, our resident hiking guide takes guests up into the hills, making the most of our position on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park. We offer daily guided or accompanied hikes, alternatively we can recommend routes for you to explore on your own.  We can also offer mountain bike tours to high peaks or small romantic mountain huts,  day trips to the beautiful city of Lienz or peaceful picnics beside the aquamarine glacial rivers and lakes.
If you would like an adrenaline rush we can also arrange additional activities with our local partners, such as rafting, canyoning, paragliding and rock climbing.
Year round:
Every holiday with us includes five yoga classes in our in-house yoga studio, with a panoramic view of the mountains and plant based meals. Whenever the weather allows, we take our yoga practice outside to take advantage of the fresh mountain air and the wonderful views of the Schobergruppe mountain range, which has 53 peaks over 3000m.

Lottie hiking in East Tyrol

Sophie is our yoga teacher, hiking guide and marketing queen and manager, with a passion for making MoaAlm a home for the guests. She’s crazy about creating connections: between people, with nature, of body and mind. She loves to be active, on the mat and out in the mountains. Her personal triathlon: a run for a cold swim and then picking blueberries on the way back.

Ryan ski touring

Tobias, a native of Berlin, is the business mind of MoaAlm as well as a hiking guide. Managing alongside Sophie, Tobi looks after finances and organises everything behind the scenes. He takes every opportunity for an icy dip in mountain waters or a hike with our guests. Never without his camera, always capturing the beauty of the moment! Very partial to playing 90's music at high volume.

Ligita socialising in Lienz

Denisa's happiest place on the earth is a kitchen. Experimenting and exploring infinite possibilities that plant based cooking can offer is her biggest passion. Besides using plates as her canvases she also adores to get into creative flow with painting, drawing and most recently explorimg the world of handpoked tattoos. Beside that wondering around the nature and snowboarding in a winter is where you can catch her during her free time.

Petra guiding in Hohe Tauren

Meet Ivana, a tech-savvy adventurer from Dubrovnik, Croatia. When she's not catching up on all things online media, indulging in her love for music, practicing yoga, or hiking, she's hitting the gym to stay fit. As a host, she can't wait to welcome guests to the MoaAlm Mountain Retreat.

Xania snowshoe walking

This sporty Welsh woman is the co-founder of WearActive and part owner of MoaAlm! In summertime Xania lives on the Croatian island of Vis, running kayak and yoga holidays and in winter she is based with the team at MoaAlm. Winter involves riding her snowboard as much as possible, while secretly getting to grip with the skis!

Craig slacklining

He does it all: snowboarding, skiing, slacklining, mountain biking, kayaking and teaching yoga. This Englishman is the co-founder of WearActive and spends his summers with Xania, running  WearActive Croatia from his home on the island of Vis. Often pictured upside down!

Zora mountaing climbing

The sweetest member of the WearActive family, Zora loves to join us in the winter season on hikes and ski tours. Her cute one-up-one-down ears make Zora well-known and loved throughout the entire valley. Very calm, she has the ability to hang out with everyone while not invading your personal space.

Rebecca foraging

The roles at MoaAlm include chef, yoga teacher and housekeeper. We often combine a role with helping with social media, chopping wood and snow clearing in the winter! If you are passionate about the mountains and think that you may want to be part of the MoaAlm team, send us an email and we can update you when there's a vacancy.

At MoaAlm we love food!
There is no better start of the day than a nutritious breakfast. We serve fresh fruits, oats and cereals, bread, organic coffee and so much more. After an active day in the outdoors, relax with a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy our freshly baked plant based cake. Dinner is always a delicious three course plant based meal made with lots of love and attention and served on our communal dining table.
We are passionate about healthy sustainable living and as a result the ingredients for all of our meals are organic and as locally sourced as possible. We believe nature knows best when it comes to our health and therefore our daily, three course menu changes with the seasons.
We also like to offer our guests the opportunity to experience to try traditional Austrian fare with a MoaAlm "twist", and we are sure you will enjoy our carefully developed menu with influences from across the globe.

Nationalpark Hohe Tauern

National park Hohe Tauern

We live right on the edge of the national park area of the Hohe Tauern mountain region of East Tirol and we are a proud partner member of the National Park, promoting sustainable tourism.  The Hohe Tauern National Park is truly unique, as its the biggest national park in Austria and within the European Alps. Highlights of the park are its numerous high peaks,  glaciers, alpine creeks, lakes and of course the untouched mountainous natural environment.
Most of our hikes in the summer, as well as our snowshoe walks in winter are within the national park. It's truly spectacular to walk on the trails that lead over mountains and hills, through empty valleys whilst being surrounded by colourful Flora and Fauna. Continuously distracted by breathtaking views and like to take the time to appreciate the surrounding environment!
Hopefully while hiking you will experience the Alpine wildlife, among which are the big five: Bearded vulture, Ibex, Golden Eagle, Gams and Griffon vulture. Our hiking guides have so much knowledge to share about Alpine life.

For more details on the National Park and why we are lucky that MoaAlm Mountain Retreat is located within it, then visit the National Park Hohe Tauern website.
