In the Kals am Grossglockner valley, East Tirol, Austria, mountain biking, really does mean mountain biking. With views of over sixty 3000m peaks from a wide range of Alpine trails, there is no better place to experience the thrill of mountain biking.
Whether it is your first time mountain biking or you are an experienced terrain rider there are a number of options for you to choose from in the village of Kals.
Bike park at the GG resort:
The Kals bike park allows you to make use of the ski lifts to access high single track mountain bike routes with stunning views. The routes in the park range from blue (easy) to black (difficult). Keep an eye out for the local marmots as you make your way down the endless single track trails.
Mountain Bike tours in the Kals Valley:
Throughout the valley there are numerous marked mountain bike tours that range from leisurely family rides to more demanding routes with altitude gains of over 1000m. The diversity is unique. Choose from the spectacularly remote Teischnitztal valley where Ibex roam and Golden Eagles soar over head. Or perhaps take the forest trails with integrated ‘bumps track’ from Kals to Arnig, where you can enjoy home brewed beer and beautiful views over Grossglockner in the family run Glocknerblick
Laura Stigger Bike Challenge:
Junior world champion Laura Stigger recently returned to her native Tirol to consecrate a new challenge in the Kals valley. Starting from the historic town of Kals and passing through the settlement of Glor, the time trial follows the magnificent Kalserback through breathtaking scenery, finishing at the foot of the Grossglockner (Austria’s highest mountain). Laura managed to complete the course in 29.50.
